===== How does an SCL’s standoff distance and the platform’s sensor range affect ALCMs? ===== It would be unrealistic to require the launching platform to be able to "see" (i.e. have the sensor range at) the great distances many ALCMs can fly. Thus, an ALCM can be launched, even if its launching platform can’t sense the target from that range. The cruise missile will use its own (explicit) sensor for target selection before invoking the A2G adjudicator. In "real life" (which is sometimes a poor representation of JAS), most cruise missiles are targeted at a set of coordinates. Currently, in JAS, there is no mechanism for A2G adjudicating at a set of coordinates, and assessing which resources would be affected. So, instead, it is necessary to provide the ALCM a sensor which will be used to detect the target BSE in the terminal phase.
